Human to Humus

The system that comprises all life on earth is circular. The western predominant linear approach has however lead to an accelerating and devastating imbalance in our ecosystem and our soils have been depleted to the extent that we are dependent on mined nutrients in order to grow nutritious food. Our human waste, that contain these exact nutrients, is flushed out in water systems making them eutrophied. This design proposal explores the possibility to close the circle by harvesting the nutrients from human urine and return them to the field. With a filtering unit I call the harvester, connected to a separating toilet, users of the service Åker gets to provide the farmers they buy vegetables from with human fertiliser. Farmers get support from a research team to transition into a more sustainable agriculture.

Scapes

Commissioned by a startup, working on new solar energy storage technology, to develop a new brand identity and logo, I challenged them to think about the human and non-human actors in the ecologies they would be transforming, and what would remain in the landscape long after the technology had become obsolete.

Here = Now

Time as a physical dimension.

The Overview Effect is something that happens to most people who have been in space and seen our planet from afar. Realising that there is only one planet Earth and how vulnerable it is, most astronauts coming back from space become environmental activists. In this project I have explored different ways of creating the Overview Effect while staying on Earth.

Life 27/7

A speculative near future of extreme optimization.

Total Kontroll

An illustration of a desperate attempt to control ones future resources.

When the insight of the physical as the only certain value, lets the need for control get out of hands.

What are the valuable scarce resources of the future?

White Noise

Exploring the idea of communication, how information is being sent and received and what happens on the way.

The definition of the word communication is projected through a water surface. When the surface breaks it becomes harder, sometimes impossible to read the sentence projected on the wall. In communication, one can never be sure that the same message is perceived at the receiving point as was intended from the sender.
